Extremely proud to be the first ceramic artist featured with Heart is in Art.
This is the article they wrote about me.
“I woke up one day and realized my soul needed more than just the run of mill existence that I had been living.”
Meet Lexi Kanias, a beautifully passionate soul who decided to leave the real estate industry to pursue her love for art and sculpting. She found that final bit of courage she needed to believe in her abilities and to follow her heart’s calling after a spiritual journey along the El Camino de Santiago. And so, XoXoPottery Designs was born.
Those following Lexi’s work on Instagram will know that she has razor sharp wit and tells things like they are. To us, her realness is one of her most endearing qualities, but she highlights her adaptability as a key characteristic which defines both her personal and artistic life.
I started off studying performing arts. I then opened a restaurant at 21 years old named Masa Buca – cooking and feeding people is an ingrained genetic thing for me. I then dove into Real Estate and worked with several development projects. I then woke up and listened to the little whisper inside me I’d been trying to dull out saying “be the creative you you’ve always meant to be, be brave, go do it”.
For Lexi, the beauty of art lies in its ability to transcend over many different objects and spaces; the constant voyage of artistic discovery.
She lovingly handcrafts pieces of functional art for everyday use, but these pieces can also be appreciated for their sheer beauty.
“My particular medium of choice at the moment is working with clay and glazes. I create multifunctional bespoke art pieces, plates, platters and bowls. All pieces are one of a kind. I sculpt and mix my own glazes. I believe each bag of clay holds endless possibilities – it’s an ongoing adventure. Doing what inspires me on a daily basis motivates me & drives my brand to greater heights.
I have a love affair with every bag of clay I open, with every piece I sculpt and with every bottle of glaze I mix.
Each imprint matters.
Each brush stroke matters.
Each piece contains part of my soul.”
Her style as a ceramic artist keeps evolving and transforming.
Lexi loves detail, imperfections and movement.
“There are no perfect, thin or overly refined edge on any of my pieces.
They’re handmade, I want you to still see my “hands” within each vessel.”
Lexi’s approach to her artwork is underpinned by practicing and implementing open hearted conscious. This practice involves consciously opening her heart to the universe and allowing the energy of ‘here & now’ to flow through her. She continues to speak about her proudest moment – and her overwhelming passion is tangible in her approach to this topic:
I had an extremely proud moment the other night in the studio as I completed 3 of my latest muses.
It was my own moment, a moment of internal accomplishment. I was proud of myself when I saw all 3 of my loves staring back at me.
I have other very proud moments I could mention too, however this one filled my heart the most.
Lexi’s talent and humour are both abundant, but she has endless offerings of wisdom up her sleeve as well.
Suzaan and I have come to love and appreciate her generosity in sharing her learnings with us.
And today is no different as she leaves us with these important words:
Be brave enough to acknowledge your gifts.
Be humble enough to know there is always room for further growth and evolution.
Be proud of yourself, celebrate your YOUness. Always remember there is enough sunshine for everyone’s face. Just make sure you’re facing the light.
